BEAUTIFUL
Vangelis & Irene Papas -The Season -
O! GLYKI MOU EAR [ OH, MY SWEET SPRING ].
- The Season -
[ It is supposed to be the lament of Virgin Mary upon seeing Jesus dead ]
Brings forth and expresses the crucifixion of Jesus and the pain of the Holy Mother in the death of her only son.
Song lyric into English:
"The perfume-bringing women sprinkled the sepulchre of Jesus with perfume, having come very early in the morning.
Your all-pure mother started lamenting because you, Word, were dead.
And the Holy Mother was crying, with warm tears, tearing her insides.
Oh, my sweet spring, my sweetest child, where has your beauty set?
All the generations praise by a hymn your burial, my Good/Beautiful.
Oh, my sweet spring, my sweetest child, where has your beauty set?"
-( 'Oh, my sweet spring, my sweetest child, where has your beauty set ?'
(The word used is special for the setting of the sun, so the beauty of Jesus has set like the sun. And of course, Jesus was the Word, as in the beginning of John's gospel).
- 'All the generations praise by (a) hymn your burial, (my Good/Beautiful)'
- 'Oh, my sweet spring')
RESURRECTION -This excellent Byzantine hymn, worshiped in Greece, is a basic Easter hymn.
"The Beauty of Your Virginity and The Splendor of Your Purity" is something the Angel Gabriel said to the Virgin Mary.
Vangelis Papathanassiou in the orchestration and musical arrangement.
