Description
Translating the sub song (片尾曲) "Love of the Earth" (大地情) from the New Heavenly Sword and Dragon Sabre 1986 (倚天屠龍記) into English.
Original Cantonese Song by Bonnie Law (罗明珠).
The 1986 series was made by TVB based on the Heavenly Sword and Dragon Sabre (倚天屠龍記) novel by Jin Yong (金庸), who is also referred to as Louis Cha in English.
The 1986 TVB series isn't considered the most popular adaptation. This is largely due to TVB airing the Legend of the Condor Heroes 1983, then Return of the Condor Heroes 1983 before replaying the 1979 version of the Heavenly Sword and Dragon Sabre. Hence most people saw the 1979 version first and consider that to be the best. However, that's pretty debatable as the 1986 version did feature an excellent performance by Tony Leung (梁朝偉) as Zhang Wuji (張無忌) and he was well supported by the female leads in Kitty Lai (黎美嫻) as Mongolia Princess Zhao Min (趙敏) and Sheren Tang (鄧萃雯) as Zhou Zhiruo (周芷若). I must admit that I was a huge fan of Sheren Tang after she appeared in the Legend of the General Who Never Was 1985 (薛仁貴征東). So I was cheering on her character but it was just not meant to be... Unfortunately... Once again they assembled a pretty good cast for this series. Simon Yam (任達華) and Carol Cheng (鄭裕玲) got the series going as Zhang Wuji's parents. They had good onscreen chemistry. A young Margie Tsang (曾華倩) featured in a cameo as Guo Xiang (郭襄) in a flashback. Charlene Tse (謝寧) also made a brief appearance as the Yellow Dress Maiden who is a descendant of Yang Gor (楊過). Other notable members of the cast included Maggie Siu (邵美琪) and Michael Tao (陶大宇) in support roles. I have to be honest and say that I really enjoyed this series.
The novel, Heaven Sword and Dragon Sabre, is pretty popular in China and worldwide. For those interested, I highly recommend reading the fan adaptation of the novel in English is available at:

This was a rather short song but I decided to translate it as it was used in series. I'm sure it is based on a folk song or a poem but at this stage cannot find further details to share. Once again I didn't do a literal translation but approached it from what made sense in English. Enjoy.
I am willing to take requests to translate other TVB or wuxia songs in the comments section.
