Translating the main theme song (片頭曲) “Laughing on the Rivers and Mountains" (笑踏河山) from the New Adventures of Chor Lau Heung 1984 (楚留香之蝙蝠傳奇) into English.

Original Cantonese Song by Roman Tam (羅文).

This TVB series which is titled "New Adventures of Chor Lau Heung" was released in 1984 and is loosely based on "Chu Liuxiang Xinzhuan" (楚留香新傳 - 蝙蝠傳奇) from Gu Long's (古龍) Chu Liuxiang wuxia novel series. The literal translation of the series title is actually "Chu Liuxiang: Legend of the Bat". For whatever reason, TVB made several changes to the original story line that the series isn't very faithful to the novel. It was only an enjoyable series for those unfamiliar with Gu Long's story. Basically me as a kid.

As for the production, it was big for it's time and featured an outstanding cast supported by an excellent soundtrack. Michael Miu (苗僑偉) put in one of the best performances of his career as Chu Liuxiang (楚留香). He does resemble the handsome playboy type character from the novel. Simon Yam (任達華) put in an equally impressive performance as the villain Bianfu Gongzi (蝙蝠公子). However, his character in this series was changed somewhat to be Chu Liuxiang's equal in both looks, confidence, and martial arts. Whereas in the novel this character is a recluse and is blind. Only his wits are equal to that of Chu Liuxiang. I really loved Barbara Yung (翁美玲) in this series, but I later learnt that her character wasn't in the Legend of the Bat but was created by TVB. So whilst I enjoyed her performance, it was disappointing that her character was just a new invention... Other notable members of the cast included Austin Wai (惠天賜), Sharon Yeung (楊盼盼), Mimi Kung (龔慈恩), and Elaine Chow (周秀蘭).

The main theme song which I titled "Laughing on the Rivers and Mountains" is pretty hard to translate as there's a few plays on word. So I hope I got it right. This is another song I translated on request from a subscriber. But it's a good song and as I said before I enjoyed the series. A total of 5 songs are used in the series, so I will attempt to translate all of them. 3 are really popular and I have located those songs. The other 2 I have had problems finding. Anyway, enjoy...
