Do Nothin’ Till You Hear From Me (Ellington) by Duke Ellington and his Famous Orchestra, trumpet solo by Cootie Williams

The famous instrumental was recorded in March 1940 as “Concerto For Cootie,” originally issued on Victor 26598, and reissued in 1944 on 20-1547 with the new title “Do Nothin’ Till You Hear From Me” while the musicians union remained on strike against Victor (aka the “Recording Ban”). Note the secondary melody that begins at 1:56 which was lengthened and renamed “Velvet Moon,” a substantial instrumental hit in 1943 for Harry James.
