Description
Mona Lisa (Livingston-Evans) by Nat King Cole, orchestra conducted by Les Baxter
This huge Cole hit (an Oscar-winning song from “Captain Carey, U.S.A.”) was conducted by Les Baxter, but was arranged by Capitol Records’ unbilled newcomer Nelson Riddle. The record spent five weeks atop the all-important best-selling singles chart...and 8 weeks as the most-played radio cut.
Like most of Cole’s major 1940s and 1950s hits, “Mona Lisa” has been most commonly reissued in its stereo remake version, recorded years later when his voice had lost much of that earlier intimate quality. This mono track is the original.
THE 1950 HITS ARCHIVE - here in one place, a good-quality library of original-release-version best-sellers and songs that made an impact that were either released or enjoyed a major chunk of their popularity within the calendar year 1950 (some were recorded in 1949).
