Join Creative Life Support Records and Phat Man Dee Productions in celebrating Miguel Sagué Jr’s debut CD “Songs From the Stone Hoop”! This historic and seminal work is a culmination of his creative and spiritual journey as both a musician and a Behike (spiritual leader) of the Taino people, the indigenous people native to the Caribbean Islands.
Miguel Sagué Jr immigrated to the US from Santiago de Cuba when he was 15 years old, spending his first years in his new country in Erie, PA. Miguel moved to Pittsburgh because of the Council of Three Rivers American Indian Center and built his life as a schoolteacher, father, and working musician. He is a founder and spiritual leader in the Caney Indigenous Spiritual Circle, which is part of the movement of people indigenous to the Caribbean reclaiming their indigenous spirituality.
Now in his seventies, Miguel is thrilled to release his album, “Songs From the Stone Hoop” which includes his original compositions which have been sung in Taino ceremony over the past 40+ years. This recording features Carlos Peña (guitar), Tony DePaolis (bass), his son Miguel Sagué III (conga, voice), a choir directed by Kris Rust, and fellow Taino leaders and members of the community Lenia Sagué, Dayvanna Caraballo, Jeffry Múcaro Blake Johnson, and Phat Man Dee (vocals). This recording was engineered, mixed, and mastered by Larry Luther of Mr. Smalls Recording and Mastering Studio in the North Side.
The show will be a hybrid presentation, with a live concert in-person at the Funhouse at Mr. Smalls, and a ticketed zoom concert for those who cannot attend in person! Children under 18 are welcome so long as they are accompanied by an adult guardian.
