Description
Kumarji, in his book Anoop Raga Vilas, Volume 1, presents Raga Rahi, as a swar-pradhan raga, that is suited to more vistaar, which is a very useful pointer in understanding the raga. A raga with both nishads, according to Kumarji, the komal nishad in this raag is used in a vakra (twisted) swaroop. This raga presents a quiet, contemplative and yet alluring vistas through it's notes, and through the presentation. The bandish composed by Kumarji in this raga, is holding to the beautiful picture that the swaras in this raga create. It says- "Come back oh my beloved, leaving that faraway land. Show me your face, it has now been years since I have seen you." In the antara, the theme is extended - "Today, this lonely, empty house scares me, I can't take it anymore, its been years, please come back!"
