Description
This is Wisaal's take on an old Lebanese popular song from the 70s. We like to think this is a small microcosm of how diverse the world is today: a Lebanese popular song, made popular in the Arab world, transcribed by a Lebanese-Syrian-American musical master, played by an American-based Mediterranean fusion music group, and shot against a backdrop of corn, an emblem of the American Midwest!
This video was shot at the gorgeous Michigan State University campus in East Lansing, Michigan. Many thanks to Salah Hassan. Swarnavel Pillai, Jared Milburn, and the rest of the MSU production team for their work.
The piece was composed by the Rahbani Brothers for the musical play Mais El Reem (The Deer’s Meadow) and was originally sung by the Lebanese diva Fairuz. This song, the title of which translates as The Last Days of Summer, is popular in Lebanon and in the Lebanese diaspora. Wisaal’s version is based on an arrangement by Abdel Kareem Bader, Igor’s oud teacher.
