“My Blood Is Palestinian” — Disclaimer: it's not technically correct for a girl to say Falastini (feminine is Falastiniya), but I didn't want to change the song. It's not about me! This is for Palestine. I want to amplify an already beautiful song that deserves to be heard by as many people as possible. Also, if you are new here, my blood is Egyptian & a very tiny percentage Palestinian haha.

I happened to be visiting Egypt in October of 2023 & being there at that time when things escalated put the g-cide into my immediate awareness. I don't think it was by chance, I believe a higher power timed it that way. Today, May 15th, 2025, is Nakba Day. It marks 77 years since the mass displacement and dispossession of Palestinians that occurred in 1948 during the establishment of the State of Israel.

I know personally for me, this has been impossible to process. I'm fatigued from grievance, sympathy, heartbreak & frustration with the greed, lack of conscience & willful ignorance of others. Recently, I've been seeing lighthearted posts from people in Gaza that have gone viral & I took it as a sign. Nothing about what's happening or happened will ever be happy, but it is human nature to find the light. It's much easier for people to interact with lighter posts & spread them especially if they DO care. At this point of no return, it seems that “fixing” what has been destroyed is harder than creating more positivity if possible. It's not about not being sad, it's about moving forward with hope anyways. I found that this song was a great way to express love, pride, care & joy in a respectful manner. I hope singing this makes people happy & want to continue the conversation.

The confidence, pride & dignity in this song is so beautiful, makes me so proud of Palestine & makes me feel so proud to be of “Arab” descent. But even if I wasn't, I would love this song. It's definitely an all time favorite. Like most people, I love good music of any genre & I care about human rights! The original singer Mohammed Assaf was the winner of Arab Idol in 2013. His vocals on this song are as soul shaking as his legacy.

The necklace I'm wearing is the Hand of Fatima with a Nazar amulet in the center. It's a symbol of protection used by both Muslims & Jews. I wore this to represent the coexistence of the two communities. It is important not to match the energy of those who generalize. There are several Jewish people who see the truth of this situation & are not biased. Again, they have a conscience & I'm so grateful for them. I'm also wearing the most well-known garment of Palestine known as the Kaffiyeh over my hair. Of course mine is pink, my signature!
