“Catacombs Under Vegas” was composed to experiment with Industrial Music inspired by Trent Reznor of NIN. I have been working towards this sound my whole life.
The album is meant to bring more attention to the stark contrast between the homeless that live underneath Los Vegas and those who live “the life” above. I got the idea for “Catacombs Under Vegas” from a YouTube documentary about the tunnels and homelessness problem there:

I was particularly interested in the talk of the tunnels being haunted which is fascinating and horrifying to think about. It makes me think more deeply about my shadow. Can make you question reality. Are these people’s visions hallucinations from too many drugs, booze and/or stress, just in their mind? Or does something unknown lurk down there? It’s a different story based on who you ask.
As I was making this album my DAW computer was in its final stages of dying and it’s a miracle I was even able to finish and then recover my work. This album was written in the cold white isolation of January when my creative spirit is high and was completed by August 2025. It was recorded at 16-bit depth 44.1 kHz sampling rate (exported in 32-bit to master), which is low compared to today’s standards, but the album still shines through because it is such a gem. I found out you can record a great album in CD quality sound, and have it turn out great, but you can’t record a turd in studio quality sound and have it come out a diamond.
This album frequently experiments with pitch bending, achieving an interesting sound by bending on all instruments in unison. “Catacombs Under Vegas” was recorded on Roland and Yamaha keyboards thus more of the NIN similarity in sound.
The message of the album is to fight humanity’s tendencies towards self-destruction within ourselves, appreciate what we have and not to turn our back on the less fortunate in society.

“And You Could Be Sleeping” is reminiscent of Trent’s beautiful “The Frail” off the “Things Falling Apart” album with similar strings, noise sampling and a unique melancholy mood. Though the point of my album was to make a sound reminiscent of NIN early to mid-work, I had not intended on imitating this work closely, I hadn’t realized how similar they are until I had completed the song and compared the two in my head. As always Trent’s work is more complex and sophisticated, but I am proud of my work as I think it came out quite well.

“Enjoy Your Woman, Your Home” and “Your Kush Life, Enjoy Them Well” are the two feel good songs on the album. They are more Acid Jazz than Industrial to portray the above ground life in Vegas. Pure ear candy like a wild winning streak. Like knocking off 3 Vegas Casinos in one night. Like cruising a Vet down the boulevard. These two tracks were influenced more by David Holmes (Acid Jazz Musician) than Trent Reznor (NIN)

“The Kiss of Death” is hypnotic and darkly beautiful pilgrimage into negative contemplation. And a confrontation with the shadow. Inspired by NIN “The Downward Spiral”

On the track “Now It Is a Horrid Hell” I used a breathing exercise I had learned to help cope with stress and anxiety to add a sense of tension to the song. Though the song has a morbid title, it switches between a bold intensity and a calm lull that is satisfying to hear.

“The Troubled Weep” is a turbulent track about despair and hopelessness. You can hear Trent’s Reznor’s influence on this track also.
