This is the story of an encounter, two musicians and two cultures dialoguing. On one side the kora, an ancient and ancestral instrument in the hands of a virtuoso, Ballaké Sissoko. On the other, electronics that expand the possibilities of the instrument itself, as proposed by Lorenzo Bianchi Hoesch. These two suggested we meet up in a 800 years old abbey just outside Paris. It's a haven of peace where they have come before to take refuge and experiment. The track they played us is perhaps the fastest, most rhythmic track on their album coming out today, Radicants. 'Déba foli' is the party that mothers organize in Mali to accompany their children to the wedding. They’re is something beautiful watching these two worlds - acoustic and electronic, traditional and contemporary, African and Western - not colliding but melting into each other. The result is pure collaboration, acceptance and cheerful open-mindedness.
