Description
"Be Thou My Vision" was translated into English from the Old Irish Hymn, "Bí Thusa 'mo Shúile," by Mary Elizabeth Byrne in 1905. The version we have here is a later versification by Eleanor Hull in 1912. The original Irish version is often attributed to Saint Dallán Forgaill in the 6th century, though is probably later. It draws on St Paul's imagery in Ephesians 6.
The tune is 'Slane', an Irish folk tune in 3/4 time, first published as "With My Love on the Road" in Patrick Joyce's Old Irish Folk Music and Songs in 1909.
This version is by the Irish singer, Robin Mark.
