Description
Beds Are Burning (Midnight Oil) guitar cover lesson with chords/lyrics is a political protest song by Australian rock band Midnight Oil about the Australian Pinupi people,
My strumming pattern: (I use a thin plectrum)
(Probably much easier to play along with the video to pick it up - but I always get asked to explain it. So here we go):
For the chorus:
Count: 1 2+3+4+ (repeated)
DDddddd
Count 1: downstroke on top 2 or 3 bass strings
2: slower downstroke emphasising all strings then a quick
downstroke on top bass strings.
3: two quick downstrokes
4: two quick downstrokes
For the pre chorus:
1 2 3 4 (repeated)
DDD Ddd Ddddd
Count 1: three downstroke on top end strings
2: same downstroke then two quick downstrokes on bass strings
downstroke on top bass strings.
3/4: same downstroke then two quick downstrokes on bass strings
(twice)
I have mixed different tracks of my voice to produce the vocal backing. The high voice was contributed by my granddaughter, Hollie.
‘Beds Are Burning’ is a worldwide hit by Australian rock band Midnight Oil, the first track from their album Diesel and Dust. It is a political song about giving native Australian lands back to the Pintupi, who were among the very last people to come in from the desert.
Midnight Oil performed the song in front of a world audience of billions at the closing ceremony of the 2000 Sydney Olympics.
