Description
Nothing From Nothing, from his album "The Kids and Me," was Billy Preston's biggest hit. He really liked the phrase "Nothing from nothing leaves nothing," used that as the basis for his song and the rest was history! I love how positive this song is. My favorite line is:
"Don't you remember I told ya I'm a soldier in the war on poverty."
Some people don't realize that Billy Preston began his career playing with many already known and successful artists such as Mahalia Jackson, Ray Charles, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and Sly & The Family Stone. The Beatles themselves considered Preston "The 5th Beatle." And if John, Paul, George and Ringo said it, then it's the truth in my eyes. I consider Billy the 5th Beatle as well!
You can tell by this video that this man was full of life, love and positive energy. It is sad that Billy died in 2006 at the age of 60. He left us way too soon, but his songs will always last forever. We miss you Billy and hope you're still jammin' on your piano upstairs with the Beatles, Ray, Mahalia and all the other greats that are gone as well!
