I don’t own any rights for the song or any part of it. And if the owners wouldn’t mind, I would like to use the track for fun and for educational purposes, so to speak.

The song is recorded by Jack Endino during the "Bleach" sessions at Reciprocal Studio, Seattle, in December of 1988. Kurt on vocals and guitar, Krist on bass, Chad on drums.

“Blew” is kinda a special one in Nirvana’s history. It’s the third most-played live song, only behind the other two “Bleach” classics, “School” and “About A Girl”. The song was played live 224 times; to put the number to a perspective, the band has only played close to 400 shows.

Next, “Blew” is the most long-lasting name in the band’s setlists. Debuted in March, 1988, the song never had a proper break during the years and lasted right until the last show, the Munich concert on the 1st of March, 1994. They played it as a part of the encore, right before “Heart-Shaped Box” which was closing the show that night. So “Blew” is the next to last song Nirvana had ever played live.

Also, “Blew” is the only Nirvana studio record released in the two steps down tuning. The track was supposed to be just one step down, but, as believed, the band forgot that they are already dropped one step and made it an extra step lower. So, in a certain way, it’s the heaviest Nirvana song. The band dubbed this extremely heavy sound "The Doom Pop Experiment." Novoselic recalled in a Seattle Weekly interview: “We recorded a bunch of tunes in that setup - like on the first day of recording. We came back the next day and decided the idea wasn’t so hot, and we recorded over most of it with things tuned back up a little. In fact, “Blew”, with that growly bass, is the only survivor of that experiment." The rest of the bunch were "Scoff", "Sifting" and "Mr. Moustache".

Finally, it’s just such a great opener for “Bleach”. No other song would be better as the first track on the album, no other intro would beat that bass riff. The band wanted to put the song at the end of the LP, but Bruce Pavitt, one of the Sub Pop guys, did the right thing and set "Blew" as an opener. According to Krist himself, “Blew” is his favorite song on the album.

Lyrics:

Now if you wouldn't mind, I would like it blew
And if you wouldn't care, I would like it lose
And if you wouldn't mind, I would like to leave
And if you wouldn't care, I would like to breathe

Is there another reason for your stain?
Could you believe who we knew stress or strain?
Here is another word that rhymes with shame

And if you wouldn't mind, I would like it blew
And if you wouldn't care, I would like it lose
And if you wouldn't mind, I would like to leave
And if you wouldn't care, I would like to breathe

Is there another reason for your stain?
Could you believe who we knew stress or strain?
Here is another word that rhymes with shame, ah

Is there another reason for your stain?
Could you believe who we knew stress or strain?
Here is another word that rhymes with shame, ah

You could do anything
