Tulsa, Oklahoma's Wilson brothers rose to fame in the 1970's, carving out a hit-making, dance-able niche in synthesizer heavy Funk music. Known as The Gap Band, Charlie, Ronnie and Robert Wilson achieved Platinum status with 1980's The Gap Band III release. The biggest hit on the record, "Burn Rubber On Me (Why You Wanna Hurt Me), hit #1 on the R&B charts in 1981. The tune features Gap Band staples of a simplistic synth bass groove, and Charlie's soulful vocals.
