Description
This is the story of two young lovers, the Chinese Romeo and Juliet. Zhu Ying Tai has disguised herself as a man to attend a school in Hangzhou. On her way there, she met a fellow traveller and schoolmate Liang Shanbo. For three years they studied and shared the same room without him realizing she was a woman.. Liang never realized that Zhu was a woman. Before her graduation, Zhu asked Liang to visit her in her hometown. When After graduation, when Liang arrivedvisited Zhu Ying Tai, he discovered her true identity and they vowed that if they could not live together, they would die together. But the girl's parents had promised her to another man and Liang died of a broken heart. On Zhu's wedding day to Ma Wen Cai tore off her wedding gown andshe threw herself against Liang's tomb, which opened up and enveloped Zhu. Then, their spirits were reborn as a pair of beautiful butterflies, flying among the flowers forever. I sung this at my October 2009 Concert with my younger brother Panhlauv (9 years old then) at the flute and khru Theara at the Tror. This is similar to the Chinese two-string instrument " Er hu". This is a very popular song in China.
