Description
A song from the 1940s !!
I first heard of Gene Autry through 'Western' comics as a youngster before realizing he sang as well. My apologies for the faint background voice audible at times on the BT...I couldn't get a more suitable track.
'Buttons and Bows' was published in 1947. The song appeared in the Bob Hope and Jane Russell film, "The Paleface", and won the Academy Award for Best Original Song. It was reprised in the sequel, "Son of Paleface" by Roy Rogers, Jane Russell and Bob Hope. The Gene Autry version of the song was recorded in December 1947 and released by Columbia Records. Bob Hope and The Clark Sisters recorded the song in October 1948. The most popular version of the song was however recorded by Dinah Shore in November 1947. The record first reached the Billboard charts in September 1948 and lasted 24 weeks on the chart, peaking at number one. (Source: Wikipedia)
