Description
The Indian Air Force Academy (IAFA) in Dundigal, Hyderabad, Telangana, India was established in 1969 and began operations on January 16, 1971. The academy's foundation stone was laid by the then President of India, Dr. Zakir Hussain, on October 11, 1967. The academy was created to centralize most of the IAF's initial officer training in one location. Air Commodore J. D. Aquino was the academy's first Commandant.
The academy has a reputation as the IAF's top training institution and is located on 7,050 acres (2,850 ha) about 25 kilometers (16 miles) from Hyderabad and Secunderabad.
