Description
Charango PLAY THRU : Kunyaq * Strumming & Singing *
(walina S.Pedro de Casta, lyrics adapted by M.Molina)
[FOR DIDACTIC USE]
KUNYAQ
Original Walina melody by Don Juan Rojas,
Parada de Kömaö Paqcha, Community of San Pedro de Casta, Peru
NOTE that the sung and played version that is popular worldwide
is based on an adaptation of lyrics by Miguel Molina.
The melody was adapted over the years. We do not know by who.
NOTE : This is for DIDACTIC USE and charango players to play along with.
The focus is on the charango chords, not on the vocals.
The language of the WALINA water song is specific and uses the pentatonic scale, some of the notes I'm singing here are out of that scale. (made with respect to the element water and to the tradition and community of San Pedro de Casta).
When you play this song, close your eyes a moment and connect to the WATER element, to yourself, and to your charango. Allow space and time to flow. When you play it, imagine flowing water, and if possible, go to a river/stream/ocean/source of water, and OFFER this song to her.
Water Goddesses & Gods, it is with utmost respect and honor I share this so more people can connect with WATER and honor WATER.

KUNYAQ is a WALINA.
INFO:
Walinas are songs dedicated to the element WATER, sung each October during the 8-day "Champería" festival in San Pedro de Casta, Huarochirí province, Peru, during which all the waterways are cleared out by the community. Together.
They are traditionally written, received and sung without chordal accompaniment.
New walinas are created and sung each year to support the cleaning of said waterways - and it's quite a celebration, as was told to me by my teacher Kike Pinto, honorary member of la Comunidad Campesina de San Pedro de Casta.
Miguel cuenta que: KUNYAQ es el nombre de un manantial sagrado en el territorio de la Comunidad de San Pedro de Casta en las montañas cerca de Marcahuasi en la sierra de Lima.
