Description
Fenario (Peggy-O)
(A cover of the traditional song Fenario aka. Peggy-O or The Bonnie Lass o' Fyvie)
New Lyrics, vocals, harmonies, and instruments performed by me, David Michael Bennett
For this song and video, I teamed up with David in dress shirt and glasses with his hands in pockets and David wearing a hat and arms folded over a red shirt that's too tight to bring you this three part harmony version of the traditional song called "Fenario". Also known as "Peggy-O".
Fenario (Peggy-O) is a traditional Scottish folk song that has been recorded by many artists like Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, and Simon and Garfunkel. You've probably heard Simon and Garfunkel's version of this song "Peggy-O" or maybe the Grateful Dead's version, or The Journeymen's version, or maybe even the ancient Scottish version "The Bonnie Lass o' Fyvie".
My favorite is the Journeymen's version and I took a bunch of inspiration from it, but I re-tooled the three part harmonies as most of the time their version was two part. I also changed the lyrics to be sort of nautical instead of the civil war or Irish dragoons or whatever other version have.
I shot this video in less than an hour.
I should have done better lighting, but at least there are three of me and I successfully didn't cross over into where I had to crop the three together, haha.

Lyrics:
Fenario (Peggy-0)
As we marched down to Fenario
We marched down to Fenario
Our captain fell in love with a lady like a dove
And they calléd her a pretty Peggy-O
Come trippin' down the stairs pretty Peggy-O
Trippin' down the stairs pretty Peggy-O
Come trippin' down the stairs, combing back your yellow hair
And waiting for you there is William-O
Oh would you marry me pretty Peggy-O
Would you marry me, pretty Peggy-O
If you'll marry me then the city will go free
And it's this I promise thee pretty Peggy-O
I would marry you sweet William-O
I would marry you sweet William-O
I would marry you but you wear sail the ocean blue
And I'm afraid my home is on the land-O
If ever I return pretty Peggy-O
If ever I return pretty Peggy-O
If ever I return then the city I will burn
And destroy all the fields in the area-O
William he is dead pretty Peggy-O
William he is dead pretty Peggy-O
William he is dead and he died out at sea
And he's buried in the ocean far from land-O
