"Wicked," Stephen Schwartz and Winnie Holzman's Tony Award-winning musical that brought to life the untold story of the Witches of Oz, recently became a global phenomenon on the big screen thanks to the brilliant direction of Jon M. Chu, and the first half of this two-part adaptation just won two of its 10 Academy Award nominations. And what no better way to celebrate this cinematic achievement than with this epic supercut of the stage and film versions of "Defying Gravity," the musical's iconic showstopper and the finale of Part 1 of the movie, with Idina Menzel and Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba and Kristin Chenoweth and Ariana Grande as Glinda.

I had to use whatever footage I can find of Idina and Kristin in the Broadway production all while syncing it up to the audio, and as a stylistic choice began the video in Black and White and gradually made it become color as the song builds, as a nod to MGM's "The Wizard of Oz" (1939).
