Depending on the temperature of your ingredients and the power of your mixer this can take anywhere from 5 to 7 minutes. If you have a thermometer, your butter should start between 60-65°F. if not, you should be able to lightly press the butter and leave a small indent. Not so hard that it makes no impression and not so soft that you can push right through.
