Flipside: ANSWER TO MY PRAYERS (great up-tempo) – Here is another really great unknown ballad from our music collection. This Pretenders group hailed from Los Angeles, CA. The group members were Bobby Rose (lead), Tommy Gonzales, Ray Rocha and Fred Garcia.

In the late 1950’s the group members got together singing while attending Freemont High School in Los Angeles. All four group members are credited with writing “DON’T TELL A LIE” and the flipside “ANSWER TO MY PRAYERS”.

Now, here’s a nice piece of history: well-known West Coast lead singer Don Julian of The Meadowlarks is singing background vocals on “DON’T TELL A LIE” and the famous Johnny Otis is playing drums. WOW!

There were a number of vocal groups that recorded using the name “Pretenders”.

Please note: Some sources claim “DON’T TELL A LIE” was recorded in 1963. (remember, you’re only as good as your sources)
