Description
Track 9 from the album “Duane & Greg Allman” released in 1972 copyright Bold Records. The album was released six months after Duane’s death in October, 1971. He died four days after their breakthrough live album “At Fillmore East” had achieved Gold status. This is a collection of early demos from 1968 recorded in Miami with Butch Truck’s folk-rock band “The 31st of February.” Duane and Gregg had their own band “Hourglass” at the time but were considering joining forces with Trucks’ band. The album features impressive covers, as well as the earliest recording of “Melissa” and Gregg’s tribute to Martin Luther King, “God Rest His Soul.” Gregg was destitute at the time and sold the rights to both those songs to producer Steve Alaimo for six hundred dollars. Recorded from the original vinyl. Written by Robert Pucetti and produced by Steve Alaimo. RIP Duane Allman, Butch Trucks & Gregory Lenoir Allman. Featuring:
Duane Allman – Lead & rhythm guitars
Gregg Allman – Lead vocals & Hammond B-3 organ
Scott Boyer – Acoustic guitar & background vocals
David Brown – Bass
Butch Trucks – Drums & percussion
In the mornin' when I'm off to meet the day and leavin' you
I can see the gentle way you say goodbye is hard for you
And I hope to make you smile but it seems I don't know how
And the time between our wishes grows to bring me down to now
The time you spend in sorrow near the window where you cry
All the time I'm givin' you, I never stopped to wonder why
I can only hope the hours move to find you growing free
From the mornings and the blinding heart, white-collar, all you need
Do you know how it feels?
Do you know how it feels?
Do you know it feels in the mornin' when I'm real?
(Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh)
Gazing from a window, watch the shadows surf the street
Feeling for the moment that you've grown so incomplete
Rose that I've left have only cut and torn your hands
And the time between our feelings grows so hard to understand
Do you know how it feels?
Do you know how it feels?
Do you know how it feels in the mornin' when I'm real?
(Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh)
