Eduard Tubin (1905-1982) was an Estonian composer and conductor, his country's most prolific and arguably greatest symphonist. For more on Tubin, see my score video of his eleventh symphony: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l-vYcU8buKo
Tubin's fourth symphony, originally written in 1943 and revised in 1978, is titled "lyrical" (other sources list the grammatically correct title in Italian, "Sinfonia lirica", but I am sticking with the spelling on the composer's manuscript.) Indeed, it is probably the most fluid and passionate of the composer's symphonic works and one of the most meticulously orchestrated, incorporating hallmarks of Tubin's symphonies such as gradual orchestral build-ups, somewhat astringent harmonies and folk-derived rhythms.
