Description
Egon Lustgarten (1887 - 1961) was an Austrian composer. After early successes in Vienna, he was forced to flee his home country when the Nazis came to power. He found refuge with his family in Austria. This song is part of a cycle titled "Zwischen Erde und Stern" (Between Earth and Star), which he composed in New York in 1940. Alexis Rodda (soprano) and Dan Franklin Smith (piano) performed this piece on April 24, 2023 at the Austrian Cultural Forum NYC as part of Elysium's festival "Innovators in Exile", commemorating the eight exiled composers who were among the founders of the International Society for New Music in Salzburg in 1922.
