"Ein Schifflein sah ich fahren" is a German folk and soldier song from the 18th century. It originated in the time of the English colonial war in North America and was sung in 1781/82 on the English transport ship "Polly", which was carried by the 15th Hanoverian Regiment, to be used by England against the North American troops. At that time, some irresponsible rulers of the small German states sacrificed German people for the imperialist crimes of the British and received nothing but money in return.
