The first time I heard this Elvis Costello song I was researching his infamous 'Saturday Night Live' performance from 1977. Costello had been told specifically not to play the track ‘Radio Radio’ because of its anti-corporate lyrics. Instead, he was scheduled to perform his recently released single, 'Less Than Zero’. After playing the new song for only a few seconds, he stopped the performance and kicked into 'Radio Radio', earning him a 12 year ban from SNL, and also a million 'punk points'. Years later, he was asked to return to the show where he surprised everyone by pulling the same stunt, but this time with the Beastie Boys as his backing band. If you haven't seen those clips before, make sure to look them up!
I had to pay homage to that performance by adding a little of 'Less Than Zero' at the beginning of this one.
