I’m sure many of you have heard the tale of the “Sleeping Beauty” who awoke from her deep slumber with the kiss of a handsome Prince. But this story is about another sleeping beauty named Zelena.
Princess Zelena was no stranger to magic as she was raised by fairies who were her guardians from a very early age. Being an  extremely inquisitive young lady, one day Zelena decided she wanted to explore the forest, and she did just that without telling anyone where she was going. As she wandered through the forest, Princess Zelena stumbled upon a castle that she had never seen before. The castle was covered in beautiful purple roses, and their fragrance was intoxicating. As Zelena stepped closer to the roses and took a long deep breath, she felt a strange sensation wash over her. Suddenly Zelena collapsed to the ground in a deep sleep. As it turns out, the roses were enchanted by a witch who used them to trap beautiful strangers who wandered into the forest. She kept them there to steal their beauty while they slept. Zelena’s fairy guardians saw she was missing and immediately began searching for her. When they finally discovered Zelena was trapped in the castle, they knew the only way to break the sleeping curse was to find a black rose from an enchanted garden in a far-off land. It was a dangerous journey but they were determined to save the princess and wake her from her deep sleep. When they returned to the castle they were met by a fierce dragon sent out by the evil witch. The fairies knew the dragon would try to harm the princess so they placed a spell of protection around the castle so they could bring her the black rose safely. The evil witch saw her dragon was defeated and tried to keep the fairies away but their magic was stronger and they defeated her by breaking the curse with the black rose. When Zelena opened her eyes and saw the fairies, she was overjoyed and thanked them for saving her. Together they escaped the castle and found their way back home. The Princess was grateful to have such loyal friends and vowed to never wander into unknown lands again.
