New Orleans is the New VIetnam is played in C-standard tuning with most of the riffs being played in the key of F-Minor (A-Minor position in standard tuning). The song modulates to the key of C-Minor (E-Minor position in standard tuning) for the final riff. The minor pentatonic, blues, and natural minor scales are used throughout, with a bit of chromaticism and a nod to the Phrygian mode during one of the transition riffs.
