Description

Morning sickness is triggered by hormonal changes in early pregnancy, particularly the rapid rise of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) and estrogen. These hormonal surges can affect your digestive system, sense of smell, and even how your brain processes nausea, which is why you might feel queasy at 9 a.m., 4 p.m., or 2 a.m.

For many moms, symptoms start around week 6 and usually ease by the end of the first trimester. But for others, it can continue well into the second trimester, and in some cases, throughout pregnancy. In severe cases (known as hyperemesis gravidarum), symptoms can lead to dehydration and weight loss, requiring medical care.

So if your “morning” sickness is actually “morning, afternoon, and night” sickness… you’re not imagining it. The name is misleading, and you’re definitely not alone.
