Description
"Silver Springs" - once the prodigal son of the Fleetwood Mac discography. Intended to be on Side B of Rumours in place of "I Don't Want To Know", the track was cut from the album after recording due to the space limitations of vinyl. "Silver Springs" serves as Stevie Nicks' more placid counter to Lindsey Buckingham's firey "Go Your Own Way" - where Buckingham accuses Nicks of sleeping around and wanting nothing more than to abandon their relationship, Nicks suggests that they had fallen out of love together, and that Buckingham did his own share of "shacking up". While Nicks was heartbroken when the band informed her that "Silver Springs" would not be on Rumours, they allowed her to record her own "I Don't Want To Know" so she wouldn't lose out on royalties, and made "Silver Springs" the B-side to the lead single - the aforementioned "Go Your Own Way". Perhaps this was the band attempting to present both sides of the story equally, at once?
The single became a collector's item as soon as it was discovered that "Silver Springs" was not on the album - and for years, "Silver Springs" existed as a rarity heard by only few lucky fans. It wasn't until 1991 and 1992 when the track would be more publicly available in Nicks' compilation Timespace and Fleetwood Mac's compilation 25 Years - The Chain. In many CD and digital reissues of Rumours since then, the track has been included as the album's closer. We hope you enjoy this hidden-gem of the Fleetwood Mac discography, and thank you for listening.
