Description
Created for the Global Leadership Summit 2024, For Generations to Come, showcases Olmsted’s dedication and vision to create a space that was for everyone—young and old, rich and poor alike—for generation after generation. His vision and perseverance, regardless of the costs to his own reputation and peace, transformed 843 untamed acres on Manhattan Island into the urban oasis we cherish today.
In a letter to his son, Olmsted wrote:
"I have all my life been considering distant effects and always sacrificing immediate success and applause to that of the future. In laying out Central Park, we determined to think of no result to be realized in less than forty years."
For Generations to Come challenges us to reflect on how we may author our own lives: towards the small, short-lived successes of now or the results that can only be realized by devoting our energy toward a future legacy.
