When I heard the sound of little children at our border crying to be reunited to their parents I was reminded of this Richie Havens tune and wanted to make a cover version of it to express my anger that we Americans have allowed the pain and trauma these children have experienced. Maybe we have forgotten what it’s like to be the foreigner.

Nobody will ever do a cover of Havens' song that will come close to his. I would urge you to watch the video of his performance at Woodstock and read the story behind that performance as well.
