Description
Track 9 from his third album "The Dream Weaver" released in 1975 copyright Warner Bros. Records. Gary Wright was born and raised in New Jersey and while on a trip to Europe in the late sixties, he met Chris Blackwell, the founder of Island Records. Blackwell later introduced him to some musicians he knew in London and they formed the blues rock band Spooky Tooth, who weren't commercially successful, but were influential in the music community. He also did session work and played keyboards on George Harrison's epic third solo album "All Things Must Pass." Other artists he worked with in the early seventies included B.B. King, Jerry Lee Lewis, Ringo Starr, Harry Nilsson and Ronnie Spector. In the 80's he focused on writing and recording film soundtracks, and was a touring member of Ringo's "All-Starr Band." This was his most successful release by far and featured a young David Foster on second keyboards. The two singles from it both reached No. 2 on the Billboard chart and his innovative use of synthesizers would influence future artists. The album climbed slowly on the charts at first but by the following summer of 1976 it dominated Top 40 radio and it's a part of the soundtrack for some of my greatest teenage memories. The album reached No. 31 in Australia, No. 7 in the U.S. and No. 3 in Canada. It achieved Gold status the following year, Platinum status in 1986 and was certified 2X Platinum in 1995.
