Gene Autry traditionally had a "Melody Ranch Christmas Party" on his radio show the week of Christmas. On the December 21, 1947 broadcast, Gene opened the show with his new hit, "Here Comes Santa Claus (Right Down Santa Claus Lane)." This was the second time that he performed the song live on the radio with the Cass County Boys, the Pinafores, and Carl Cotner's Orchestra. The song became a holiday hit and Gene sang it many more times on his radio show and his Columbia Records version sold more than a millions copies.
