A Hymn for the Golden Jubilee of the Diocese of Arlington
Dedicated to the Most Reverend Michael F. Burbidge, Bishop of Arlington,
and to the Clergy, Religious, and Lay Faithful of the Diocese of Arlington,
on the occasion of the Golden Jubilee of the Diocese of Arlington,
in the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand Twenty-Four
Cathedral Choir of the Cathedral of Saint Thomas More
Shaina Murphy, cantor
Joseph Gribb, organ
Recorded in Msgr. Burke Hall, the lower level of the Cathedral, which is serving as the church until the renovation is complete for the Golden Jubilee Mass on Thursday, September 5, 2024
The refrain of the hymn is a compilation of scriptural verses (see references below) that covers the three themes of the Jubilee years – remember, rejoice, renew – and then uses Hebrews 13:8 to bring all three together at the end. The verses are stanzas from Psalm 147, a hymn of praise recounting God’s mercy and his past and present blessings, and the psalm from which the opening of the refrain is drawn.
Ps 147:7 Sing praise to the Lord with thanksgiving,
Ps 105:5 rememb’ring his marvelous deeds.
Lk 1:47 Rejoice in God our Savior
Phil 4:19 who provides for all our needs.
Ps 147:7 Sing praise to the Lord with thanksgiving:
Rev 21:5 behold, he makes all things new,
Heb 13:8 the same yesterday, today, and for ever, Jesus Christ, the Lord.
