The Jazz Studies Program at Sacramento State is dedicated to developing highly versatile and expressive performers. Students receive comprehensive training in both jazz and traditional music, with a strong foundation in core musicianship and performance skills.

Our award-winning ensembles perform multiple concerts each semester and regularly appear at regional and international jazz festivals. Over the years, they have shared the stage with a remarkable list of guest artists, including Jeff “Tain” Watts, Dave Douglas, Eric Marienthal, Donny McCaslin, Ernie Watts, Kenny Werner, Carl Allen, Jon Faddis, Bobby Shew, Conrad Herwig, Bob Mintzer, Wayne Wallace, Ingrid Jensen, Tim Ries, John Fedchock, Geoff Keezer, Dave Pietro, Paul McKee, Wayne Bergeron, Terell Stafford, The New York Voices, Steve Turre, Wycliffe Gordon, Sean Jones, Ted Nash, Dick Oatts, and many others.

Sacramento State’s School of Music offers the Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Music degrees with concentrations in Jazz Performance or Jazz Education, as well as the Master of Music degree in Conducting, Composition, or Performance.
