Description
Phillip Sear plays a 1919 piece by the obscure American composer Henry Haaf (dates unknown).
--------------------------------------------------
I've found hardly any information on Haaf, but I believe that he was a real person and not a pseudonym, as there are references to him performing a ceremonial march at a Masonic event in 1919.
In my thumbnail, I have superimposed the beautiful cover art illustration of a lady from the original sheet music on a new background. The drawing is by John Knowles Hare Jr. (1884–1947), an American artist active in the early 20th century, known primarily for his lithographic prints, magazine cover illustrations, and postcard art. He is noted for works such as portraits, including images of women and children, often done in pastels, pencils, and oils. His style includes elements of the Art Nouveau period and he produced various collectible lithographs and postcards around 1909–1912. Hare's work was popular in magazines such as the Saturday Evening Post, and his art often depicted elegant Victorian and Edwardian subjects. He was also known for prints of Native American figures and glamour subjects.
