Description
True Jazz Lovers, I looked for this out in YouTube land and couldn't find it. This is probably one of the best Jazz Quintets ever formed. While I do see some VSOP stuff out there, the Piano Introduction along with Maiden Voyage truly gives you a musical journey through a hurricane from one side to the other. The piano introduction is the calm before the hurricane. (***Unfortunately, I couldn't include the piano introduction as video was too large.***) The solos and accompanying instrumentation build as the hurricane grows in Maiden Voyage (just listen to Tony Williams on those drums; Freddie Hubbard on Trumpet; Herbie Hancock on the Yamaha Electric Grand Piano; Ron Carter on Bass; and Wayne Shorter on Tenor and Soprano Sax!) ...building and building until 6:38, where you pierce the eye wall and enter the eye of the hurricane and experience calm... only to pierce the other side of the eye and build again. If you have ever lived through a hurricane where you experienced the eye (For me, Hurricane Fredric, September, 1979, Moss Point/Pascagoula, Mississippi), the calm at the center of a hurricane baffles the senses! This is truly a genius arrangement... incredible playing... a wonderful rendition of a timeless piece... capturing nature through music... truly one for the archives. *** For Fair Use Only *** Go out and purchase this for your collection (available on Amazon)! You'll listen to it over and over again!
