Wanted to try something a bit more conceptual.
Nathaniel has always been apart from Neil, something to run away from, some dark past to bury. The books are from Neil's pov but we don't really know what goes on in his head when he thinks about his past. Maybe he and Nathaniel would scream, or run, or chase and escape. Maybe they'd chat.
Maybe Nathaniel would say, "Hi there Neil, it's been a little while, did you miss me?"
