Description

“I Always Come Back to Texas” is a tribute to the place where life begins and the soul belongs.
A trucker’s story of childhood, first love, family, friends, and long highways that always lead back home — to Texas.
This isn’t just a song. It’s a heartland anthem in 18 wheels and six strings.
It has been prepared in several different versions — so that every listener, no matter their voice or music taste, can feel it as their own.
Welcome back to Texas. 🤠

”I Always Come Back to Texas”

I was born where the cattle graze wide and free,
Where the Lone Star proudly watches, and faith still thrives, you see.
In a sun-kissed town with a gentle chapel bell,
Texas raised me — and raised me well.

We played baseball in the blazing sun, till the sky turned gold,
With well-worn gloves and dreams that would never grow cold.
Whispers of barbecue smoke and sweet tea’s soft call,
And neighbours who’d help you with both their hands.

I stole her first kiss by the Rio Grande’s timeless flow,
In jeans and boots with a faltering hand, held soft and low.
She smiled like spring on a bluebonnet-draped hill so bright —
And Lord, that magic lingers, shimmering in my heart’s light.

I spoke my vows on a golden July morn,
With my mama’s soft tears and music about to be born.
Now my kids run free through that familiar yard’s embrace,
Barefoot and laughin’ beneath the Texas sky’s grace.

There’s brisket slow-smoked for half a day,
And peach cobbler perfume that simply won’t fade.
Some say moonshine gleams near the shadowed piney woods —
But hush now, dear friend — it’s secrets, quietly understood.

I’ve seen majestic peaks, and oceans’ vast sweep, and city lights ablaze,
Driven through blizzards and desert’s moonlit haze.
But no skyline shines like a Texas sky’s fiery hue,
Where the crickets hum their ancient song, and the eagles soar anew.

My faithful old truck knows the winding path by heart,
Back through the endless plains where the ranch roads gently start.
The moment I pass that welcome sign,
I feel that Texas spirit awaken, inertwined.

So spin on, wheels, and roll on, golden sun,
A thousand miles fade to dust, till I reach my haven, my son.
'Cause no other haven grants such sweet repose —
Texas, my heart… my true home… where joy overflows.

“The lyrics written with care and inspired by universal themes of love and longing. Any similarity to other works is purely coincidental and unitentional.
This piece is shared in the spirit of love, hope, and connection.”
