Bassist: Wilton Felder
Fingers, originally on a single coil Telecaster using flat wound strings
There are a couple different variations of this that people will often play. One is that after the first note of the song, the bass plays 3-4, if you listen to the isolated track, or the live performances, you'll notice it's 2-3 like I've tabbed out.
Another thing that people will also do is play it in different positionings, but they're still the same notes.

2:16 - Gibson bass, you can see a lot of positioning, but it's not quite the same as the studio riff

Isolated bass track - there are a few of these posted on YT, this one is widely accepted as his actual part

The bass isn't played live (you can easily tell), but Wilton has his hand down by 1 and 3, not 6 and 8 or 3 and 6
throughout for the the lead in to the Chorus, but again, it's not played live

2001 reunion (starts ~9:45) - hard to tell much from it except the position of the repeated 16th notes is a 1st finger.
His hand is often closer to 3 and 6 rather than 6 and 8 or 1 and 3, so it would seem that he plays the song that way, but it's not confirmed for sure. He looks super fly tho. The song is also not played in the original key. Try playing along with it and you'll see it's much lower

0:36 - confirms it is originally 6 and 8 or 3 and 6, not 1 and 3
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=prfUzZU1oKw
1:13 - slides up on the neck. camera cuts before we can see the lick played
1:21 - he's turning as he's playing but it's not 1 and 3. It's up just slightly, but not quite a 6 or 8
Fender bass though
This is probably the last video that you'll see with this setup! It's been a grand total of 3 covers, 1 behind the bass cover, and a lesson video. As you'll start to notice, that big blue tarp will be gone soon, but also, the camera will look different! Keep an eye out for these upcoming changes
Thanks for watching! Enjoy :)
