Description
A song composed by Donald Heywood and Will Marion Cook and recorded by Ethel Waters in 1926. I first heard it by the Paul Whiteman Orchestra which included musical vignettes and solos by the Rhythm Boys, Eddie Lang, Joe Venuti, Bix Beiderbecke and Frankie Trumbauer. Wonderful stuff with a great melody and a sweet harmonic background.
I tried the experiment of recording the backing first on one Zoom H2, then playing it back through earbuds from that H2 while recording the lead on to a second H2. It gave a nice clean sound which I uploaded into Audacity on my Mac, topped and tailed, synched up in Garageband and then fed into iTunes.
I'm playing it here on tenor guitar in C with a guitar backing. The backing chords of the main chorus require some pretty nifty shifting around the fretboard but are great fun to play! No fiddling around here - just once through the introductory verse and three times through the main theme. Fedora obligatory...
