Description
This is a screen-capture video from a TuneLing for "I'm Gonna Love You" from the album "Leather (Deluxe Edition)", by Cody Johnson & Carrie Underwood.
This song is also available in a separate TuneLing video for ukulele!
Notes:
This is a simple, timeless love song, beautifully sung, but it would be far less interesting if not for its VERY unusual rhythmic structure, which is heavy on "mixed meter".
That's the fancy music-theory term that applies when the number of beats-per-bar changes during the song, and in this case, it changes a great deal. The verse, specifically, is an 8-bar form, and the number of beats in each of those bars follows the pattern 3, 4, 3, 4, 3, 3, 3, 4 - which might be useful to know if you try to memorize the song (and you should!).
This might make the song sound difficult to play - like some 70s prog-rock or jazz-fusion piece - but it's really not. Our moving chart will keep you in the right place throughout, and the mixed meter works surprisingly well for a slow country ballad.
The chords are simple for both guitar and ukulele, suitable for near-beginners. On guitar, we only show them with a capo, and on ukulele, we show them both ways - with and without a capo. You can easily tell them apart as you watch the video, so you can pick whichever style is more comfortable for you. The capo will definitely be easier for the newer uke players!
ENJOY!
