IT’S YOU, The Hollywood Saxons, (Elf #103) 1962
Flipside: I’M YOUR MAN – Here is another really great unknown ballad from my music collection. The Hollywood Saxons aka The Portraits aka The Tuxedos all hailed from Los Angeles, CA. Group members were Stan Beverly (lead), Charles Taggart (1st tenor), Maudice Giles (2nd tenor), Joe Lewis (baritone) and Nathaniel “Buster” Wilson (bass).

They were all friends and routinely played basketball together. After all their practices and games, they sang in the showers and liked what they heard. So, they started a vocal group and had their first recording for the “OUR” Record label in 1958. Not much success, but they got lucky to next record for George Motola’s Tender label (no success again).

Next calling themselves The Portraits they recorded for Capitol Records and recorded 20 sides, but only “CLOSE TO YOU/EASY CASH” (Capitol #4181) 1959 was released.

When the group re-named themselves The Tuxedos, they recorded for one of George Motola’s other labels “TROUBLE, TROUBLE/YES IT’S TRUE” (Forte #1414) 1960.

(Please note: George Motola is credited as co-writer for Jesse Belvin’s hit song “GOODNIGHT MY LOVE”. He also is well known for writing for, arranging and producing many West Coast vocal groups – too many to list!)

After the group’s Forte release, they once again re-named themselves The Hollywood Saxons. They recorded a collector’s favorite “EVERYDAY’S A HOLIDAY”. It was first pressed on (Hareco #102) 1961 titled “EVERYDAY HOLIDAY”. This pressing 25 years ago was valued at $4,000.00.

Later it was pressed 3 more times as “EVERYDAY’S A HOLIDAY” (20th Fox #321) (Elf #101) and 4th pressed as “EVERY DAY’S A HOLIDAY” (Swingin #631).
