Description
Here's the two opening tracks of the brand new effort from one of my favorite band, in many ways a true monument in music history, Jethro Tull. Recently, Ian Anderson decided to give rebirth to his legendary band, this time without his lifelong fellow, the guitarist Martin Barre, and published last year a decent album, the first under this name since more than 20 years. Then, surprisingly, he announced a new album for April 2023, which represents the shortest gap between two Jethro Tull albums since "A" in 1980, that followed "Stromwatch" with a similar gap.
When I heard of this album, I was extremely excited, especially when I learned that this was a conceptual album with a topic as thrilling as the scandinavian mythology. I listened to it at 7 am of its issue day. So glad I was to realise that the only thing that was poor on this album was the title. In my opinion, this is the new style the maestro Anderson started to developed with albums like "Crest of a Knave" (1987) and "J-Tull Dot Com" (1999) and consolidated in solo efforts like "Thick as a Brick 2" (2012) and "Homo Erraticus" (2014) or with the yesteryear effort, but this style is performed at its highest potential in "RökFlöte".
To make it short, when I listened to it, it inspired me so much that I couldn't resist to the desire of making a new mix with at least two of these wonderfull new pieces. I finally selected the two openers, Voluspo and Ginnungagap, because there were the most inspiring for me, but also because the two concerned the scandinavian myth of creation. The first one refers to the poem Völuspá, that tells the story of this myth, which represents one of the most important primary sources for the study of this mythology. The second refers to the primordial void where lived Ymir, the divinity that was killed by Odin and its brothers, that use his body as a raw material to create the earth. The result is an epic opener track that last more than eight minutes and that will give you all the basic knowledge about the scandinavian myth of creation, I hope you will enjoy!
Don't forget that you should always prioritize listening to your music by buying your album directly from the artist. At least listen and like the videos published by him. Here are the links for the original songs:
