Description
A joyous little round in Yugambeh language. This is the indigenous language of Logan (where Mixed Beans is based) as well as the Scenic Rim and Gold Coast regions.
It is a song of greeting, saying "Hello! What's new? How are you?"
When we sing it, we are also acknowledging that we are singing on the unceded lands of the Traditional Custodians, and paying our deep respect to the Yugambeh people and their Elders past and present.
The Lyrics are:
Jingeri, Jingeri! (x3)
Jingi walli wahlu?
"Jingeri" is also the word for native bird, the Willy Wagtail, who with its chirrup and cheeky wagging tail-feathers, always seemed to be bringing gossip about the local happenings.
Thank you to Yugambeh Museum, Beenleigh for this information about the Yugambeh language and their support of the song.
Always was, always will be Aboriginal Land.
