Description
The third time I met up with JJ Cale while working on my book Superstar in a Masquerade, was on June 20, 2004 in Boston at the Paradise Rock Club. this time I remembered to bring along a novelty record he and his wife Christine Lakeland made in 1979. As the flip-side of his single "Katy Kool Lady," Cale used "Juarez Blues," a song he and Christine wrote together and used the names Juan and Maria on the label. After some conversation, as he and Christine signed my copy of the picture sleeve, JJ said, "Now there you've got yourself a real find, a Holy grail of JJ Cale!"
One of many drug-referencing songs, it was never put on an album, but "Katy Kool Lady" was one of the tracks on his 1979 album 5. Cale's most well-known drug song was "Cocaine," from his 1976 album Troubadour. You probably know it better as one of Eric Clapton's great hits, and covers of Cale's songs.
